A Letter to my Son on his 5th Birthday!

Dear Turner,

I haven't been keeping up with the blog at all.  In fact, I am many birthday letters behind.  I am not sure I will get to write this whole letter, but I wanted, at the very least, to post these few very important things.

1.  The following poem I wrote for you and had Miss Randi read to your class as she gave out the cupcakes you brought in.  I hadn't thought about it beforehand, but I pretty much embarrassed the hell out of you. My son in many ways including shying from the spotlight.  Yet, you don't.  Because you love to perform.  But, red-faced and quiet, you heard this poem:

Dear Turner,

We can't be in your class as you celebrate your day
So, we thought we'd send wishes another special way.
Today's your birthday, your day to enjoy.
We're thinking of you, our favorite 5 year old boy!

Turner, As a baby you were all dimples and smiles.
At ONE you were certainly the happiest child.
At TWO you already had that sparkle in your eyes
And, at THREE, you were "beyond your years wise."
By FOUR you easily filled a room with joy
And now, you are FIVE, what a big boy!

You are the birthday boy, it's your day for fun
A very special day, for a very special brother and son.

We can't wait to see you later, and we wish you the best day.
And, Turner, there's only one more thing to say...

We Love You!

Mommy, Daddy, Chase and Ryder

Every single word of this poem is true.  To have known you in these first 5 years is to know it is all so true.  You were the happiest and most smiley of babies, in fact in my short-lived Confessions of the Id blog, your nickname was Smiles.  You do have a sparkle in your eyes that anyone who looks at you can see.  You are wiser than your years and there is never a doubt that you will and you do fill a room with pure joy.

2.  This video of you being interviewed about turning 5.  I have so many favorite parts, but the belting out of the song and the very last line do top my list (I've never been 5 before in my entire life:)

3.  Right before your brothers birthday we started a new tradition:  The Birthday Shirt. This is daddy's shirt that we drew all over and every year we will take a picture of you guys growing IN to the shirt.  Here is the picture of you in the now traditional "birthday shirt!"
